Due to recent regularities found in Paytm, RBI issued various guidelines against Paytm Payments Bank which have affected more than 29 crore users of Paytm. Under these guidelines, users won’t be able to do any kind of transactions in Paytm Payments bank. After the implementation of these regulations issued by RBI against Paytm, it is not possible to add or credit money to Paytm Wallet, transfer money, etc. These regulations were set to be imposed by February 29, 2024, but now the date has been extended to 15 March.

Once these regulations are effective, then users will not have access to any banking services of Paytm and also the Fastag services.
So many of the vehicle owners who have purchased Fastag from Paytm are wondering what will happen to their Fastag, how to migrate or port Paytm to another bank, whether will they be able to get their Paytm Fastag balance back, etc. Here we will try to answer all these Paytm Fastag-related questions.
After the decision by RBI, any Fastag purchased from Paytm won’t work after 15 March and by considering this, the National Highway Authorities of India has removed Paytm from its list of 33 Fastag providers. So neither the old Fastag that you purchased from Paytm will work nor you will be able to get a new one issued from it. Therefore first of all you have to surrender or deactivate your Paytm Fastag and then apply for a new one from any of the 32 providers that are licensed by NHAI for selling new Fastag devices.
How to deactivate Paytm Fastag?
As mentioned above, to continue using Fastag services at the toll plazas, after Paytm Fastag is banned, you have to deactivate it which can be done by the below steps:
You can generate a request for Paytm Fastag surrender or deactivation either by calling the customer support service of Paytm or by visiting the Paytm App.
Deactivating Paytm Fastag through the Paytm App
Most simplest and quickest method of closing Paytm Fastag is with the help of the Paytm App for which the steps are given below:
- First of all, you have to open the Paytm App on your mobile phone.
- Tap on the Manager Fastag option after opening the Paytm App.
- You will be able to see the Fastag linked with your mobile number.
- Now you will see the ‘Help & Support’ option at the bottom.
- You will have to look for the option “Queries Related to Updating FASTag Profile”
- Here you have to select the option “I Want to Close My Fastag”
Paytm Fastag will now be deactivated and you are ready to buy a new Fastag from another bank.
Deactivating Paytm Fastag through Customer support
The second option for closing your Paytm Fastag before you can apply a new are discussed below:
- You have to call the customer support service of Paytm on this number 1800-120-4210.
- You will have to give your mobile number that is registered with Paytm Fastag.
- Fastag unique ID and Vehicle Registration number VRN also need to be provided.
- The concerned customer support executive will confirm whether you want to close your Paytm Fastag.
- Upon your confirmation, Paytm Fastag will be closed.
Is it possible to withdraw money from Paytm Fastag?
If there is a balance in your Paytm Fastag, then you won’t be able to withdraw it. The only way, the balance in your existing Paytm Fastag will be refunded or transferred is that you deactivate or close your Paytm Wallet. How to apply a new Fastag after closing Paytm Fastag?
Once your existing Paytm Fastag is closed, you are eligible to apply for a new Fastag from any of the 32 authorized service providers that are on the updated list of NHAI. You have to follow the below process:
- You can either go to Point of Sale of the authorized service centers which are located almost at the toll plazas of National Highways.
- You can also visit the nearest branch of around 26 banks that are licensed to issue Fastag.
- Regional Transport Offices ie. RTOs also have access to issue new Fastag for your vehicle.
- Easiest way of buying a new Fastag for your vehicle is online which can be done by visiting the official website of a bank that has been approved by NHAI for providing a new Fastag.
